About the Event

The James Madison/James Andersen Awards Event is held annually to honor an individual or organization that has demonstrated extraordinary devotion to the principles of open government and the First Amendment in words and deeds, and to honor an individual or organization that has worked tirelessly to advance the work of the Coalition.

Ken Bunting
Posthumously Awarded
Award presented by 2013 Madison Award recipient, Brian Sonntag

Ken Bunting is being posthumously honored for this year's James Madison Award for his long term committment to the cause of open government. Bunting was one of WCOG's founding board members and former executive director of the National Freedom of Information Coalition.

Katherine George
Award presented by 2013 Andersen Award recipient, David Seago

Katherine George, WCOG Board Member and Chair of the Legal Committee is being honored for this year's James Andersen Award for doing extraordinary work to advance the efforts of WCOG. George has written key amicus briefs for WCOG in major state Supreme Court cases involving open government issues.
