Initiative 1098 Petition Pages
Initiative 1098, on the November 2010 ballot in Washington state, would create a state income tax, reduce the state portion of the property tax, and expand the number of small businesses exempt from the business and occupation tax. One of the individuals who circulated petitions for I-1098 has been charged with submitting as many as 20 petition pages containing forged signatures (see article in Seattle Times).
Washington Coalition for Open Government submitted a public records request to obtain scanned copies of the I-1098 alleged to contain forged signatures. We received high-resolution JPG scanned images of the front and back of these 20 pages from the Secretary of State on September 15, 2010. A sample of one of these pages is available for download (Front (7MB) , Back (6MB)).
The total size of all the scanned images is over 250 megabytes. If you would like to receive copies of all the scanned images, WCOG will forward them to you by email at no cost; contact info@washingtoncog.org to request copies. Copies can also be obtained on CDROM or by email directly from the Secretary of State by contacting the public records officer at publicrecords@sos.wa.gov.
